amillionbeats: Yeah, no. Seriously what the hell is this hot mess? Yes, Jobe’s looking pretty damn fine, but you just don’t go changing a team’s colours!!!! I find this misstep in footy fashion highly offensive. The colours are black and red, period. How is one supposed to doll up for a night at the footy in grey?! It’s so Eastern block circa 1965, and something I would expect a team only in existence to make up the numbers to wear (see: Gold Coast, GWS). No team can be expected to charge into the finals in this kind of drab middle man outfit. Thankfully this “heritage guernsey” is for limited away games only, against Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and Port Adelaide. The AFL should stay on the footy field and OFF the runway. Gosh, yeah, I mean god forbid they pay homage to some of the great people that played for this club and made Essendon the club that it is. God forbid they show loyalty, team spirit, and genuine thankfulness for all of those people who have done so much, kicked so many goals, picked up so many possessions, or tackles, or for fucks sake actually coached the team to a premiership. That must be unheard because it interferes with the idea of black and red being a colour to dress up in. This has nothing to do with a goddamn runway and everything to do with the fact that these people lived and breathed football just like some of the rest of us do, and you know what, nearly every club (except, as you so rightfully pointed out, the ones that have just come into existence) has a heritage guernsey so why should we be so above it. Why don’t you just suck it the fuck up and actually appreciate who has made this football club great.
